OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

QB Cameron Higgins, Weber State, Soph.

Higgins has burst onto the national scene this year after earning Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors last season to become a potential front runner for the Walter Payton Award. So far he has thrown for 2,121 yards, 23 touchdowns, and thrown just five interceptions on 153 of 226 passing. His 67.7 completion percentage and 175.69 pass efficiency shows how good of a decision maker he is. Higgins also has one rushing touchdown on the year and has earned Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors three times.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

DE Greg Peach, Eastern Washington, Sr.

Peach has put together a great start to the season reminiscent to the one that Montana DE Kroy Biermann did last season and put a stamp on this mid-season honor against Biermann’s alma mater with four and a half tackles for loss and four sacks. That game brought his season totals up to 40 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, a hurry, and pass breakup. As of the mid-season mark not only has Peach been the top playmaker but his numbers help skyrocket his stock for the Buck Buchanan Award from contender to frontrunner.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

PR Scotty McGee, James Madison, Jr.

There has been no player in FCS to make more game changing performance plays this year than McGee and he has made those plays against top competition. He earned his third special teams player of the week honor this past week against Richmond and had previously earned those honors against former #1 App State and Duke, a FBS foe. At the mid-way point he currently has 232 yards and two touchdowns on punt returns and 427 yards and one touchdown on kickoff returns. His most recent touchdown provided the game-winning score on the road against Richmond. McGee has broken JMU’s career kick return touchdown and his 69-yard punt return for a score marked JMU’s 10th-longest punt return in school history and the longest of the CAA this season.
